Yogini A.
In the past 3 years, I have been given three names by which I live my life. I aim to write inspirational letters that live up to each of these names. My blog posts may serve as monologues to be delivered during the beginning relaxation or final savasana of a yoga class.
3 Names to Live Up to:
- Aviεla– My Ghanaian name, given to me by my community in the Upper West village of Kalsagri. It is Dagaare for “No Worries,” “It’s fine,” and “It’s beautiful.”
- Akira– My first Yogini name, given to me by my teacher, Mahesh, at Vinyasa Yoga School in Rishikesh. It is Sanskrit for “Graceful Strength,” “Bright,” “Intelligent,” and “Clear.”
- Anjali– My second Yogini name, given to me by my guru, Yogi Sivadas, at Kailash Tribal School of Yoga and Holistic Healing in Dharamshala. It is Sanskrit for “Tribute,” “Divine Offering,” “Offering with Both Hands.” Anjali is also the name of one of the most common mudras: “hands at heart centre.” To me, it is a daily reminder to live by, from, and with the heart: following it to the highest peak of existence: Loving life and Life loving me back.
